NORFOLK -- The Inspiration Performing Troupe ("Inspiration") traveled to New York City this past Memorial Day weekend, where the group was invited to perform at Ripleys Believe it or Not Museum in Times Square and on the Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum in Manhattan.

In between performances, the troupe attended a private workshop with Jeffrey Schechter, recently played Mike Costa in "A Chorus Line."

Inspiration is a local traveling performing arts troupe based in Norfolk Massachusetts. The 2014 spring season is comprised of 20 members ranging in age from 10-18 from Norfolk, Wrentham, Plainville and surrounding towns. Some members are new to Inspiration, while others have been involved with the group since it formed five years ago by Emily Garven.

In 2009 Emily, then an 8th-grade student at King Philip Middle School, approached her family about her vision to start her own troupe. As founder and director, Emily’s passion for performing is instilled in her troupe.

Over the years the group has come together to perform at nursing homes, shopping plazas, hospitals, churches as well as numerous Norfolk Community League, Norfolk Lions and other community events.

Inspiration performed in Disney World in April of 2013, sang the National Anthem for the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in June 2013 and sang the National Anthem for the Boston Bruins on March 15. The group has performed twice in New England’s Got Talent in Woonsocket, RI and has been featured on Norfolk Cable TV.

The mission of the group is to use the talents of local children to give back to the community and to give them an exciting performing experience close to home. They are taught skills that help them in their singing, dancing, and acting careers as well as given an opportunity to inspire others with their talents and love of performing.

"We want to open up the world of performing to local children who want a shot at being a star and doing something they love in a safe and inexpensive environment," says Emily.

Upcoming Inspiration performances in Norfolk include Taylor’s Triumph (June 7), Norfolk Community Day (June 7) and Norfolk Concert on the Common (June 26). For more information on this troupe, visit the website at www.inspirationperformingtroupe.com.
